A Guide to Kayaking the North Carolina Piedmont

The Piedmont isn’t the first place people think of when they picture kayaking in North Carolina. The coast gets the spotlight, and the mountains have the whitewater scene. But if you live around Charlotte like I do, you don’t need to drive four hours to get on the water. There’s good paddling a lot closer than people realize, and most of it is calm, quiet, and easy to fit into a weekend morning.

These are the spots I actually paddle and enjoy checking out when I get the time. I’ll tell you. If the water is worth the drive, same thing. Use the guides below to plan your next trip out.
